The Opening Game of this prestigious FIFA World Cup 2022 holds today at the Al Bayt Stadium.


The 60000 capacity stadium is a retractable roof football stadium in Al Khor which will be used for matches in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, holding today November 20, 2022. The stadium’s construction contract was awarded to Webuild S.p.A. and Cimolai in 2015. The stadium is located about 35 km away of Doha.

The inauguration of the Al Bayt stadium took place about a year ago on November 30, 2021, on the occasion of opening ceremony for the FIFA Arab Cup 2021.


This was followed by a match between the host country Qatar versus Bahrain, in which the reigning Asian champion Qatar survived a dire-minute scare to see off the visitor by a lone goal, courtesy of a header from Qatari foward, Abdulaziz Hatem.

The all-important footballing event was attended by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. FIFA President Gianni Infantino, several Heads of State and authorities and Presidents from member associations to enjoy the inauguration ceremony of Al Bayt Stadium and to mark the official opening of FIFA Arab Cup 2021.


The newly built stadium hosted five matches during FIFA Arab Cup 2021, including the final of the tournament on 18 December 2021.

Al Bayt Stadium will host nine matches during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
