Jonathan Rejects APC Presidential Form, Media Advisers say its an insult
Nigeria’s erstwhile President Goodluck Jonathan, has rejected the presidential form of the All Progressives Congress purchased for him on Monday by a group of his supporters from the north.
Dr Ebele Jonathan’s Media Adviser, Mr Ikechukwu Eze, said in a statement hours after the news that the group had bought the form for him broke that the former did not authorise the purchase and consider the move by the group ‘an insult’.
“We wish to categorically state that Dr Jonathan was not aware of this bid and did not authorise it,” the statement read in part.
“We want to state that if the former President wanted to contest an election, he would make his intentions clear to the public and will not enter through the back door.”
In recent months, there have been increased speculations about whether the ex-Nigerian President will run for his old post in in the 2023 general elections and there have been calls for him to do so.
Although he is not a member of the APC, speculations have intensified in recent weeks that he is set to switch from the Peoples Democratic Party to contest for President in 2023.
But the former President has yet to state whether he would contest or not, neither has he spoken about the possibility of switching parties.
“While we appreciate the overwhelming request by a cross-section of Nigerians, for Dr Jonathan to make himself available for the 2023 Presidential election, we wish to state, that he has not in anyway, committed himself to this request,” Eze said.
“Buying a presidential aspiration form in the name Dr Jonathan without his consent, knowing the position he had held in this country, is considered an insult to his person. The general public is therefore advised to disregard it.”
A coalition of northern groups purchased the APC presidential nomination form and the expression of interest form at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, informing journalists that it was for Dr Jonathan.
Sporting fez caps with the inscription ‘run Jonathan run’, members of the coalition said the former president is the most qualified person to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
In rejecting the forms, Dr Jonathan kept his plans close to his chest.
The purchase of the forms was the latest move in efforts by people who identify as his supporters to get him to contest.
In April, a crowd of supporters had held a rally, calling on him to join the race.
Addressing them he said, “Yes, you are calling me to come and declare for the 2023 presidency, yes I can’t tell I am declaring; the political process is ongoing, just watch out,” he said at the time.
If elected as President again, Jonathan can only serve for one term of four years, according to the constitution.
He was first elected in 2011 after completing the tenure of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
President Buhari defeated Jonathan in the 2015 presidential elections.

Subscription-Revenue Decline: Netflix Sacks 150 Staff
Netflix has laid off 150 full-time employees in the United States.
This is a result of a fallout of a significant drop in its revenue. According to reports, the recent retrenchment affects employees across departments in the organization. This includes 70 part-time positions in the animation, social media, and publishing divisions.
At least 26 contractors working on the company’s fan-focused Tudum website, which acts as an addition to Netflix’s content were also affected. Last month, the Tudum subdivision was exclusively impacted by a similar fate, with over 25 roles in the marketing section.
This new decision is coming less than a month after the streaming giant laid off at least ten full-time employees and contractors from its editing and marketing departments. The Netflix management has explained that the choice is unrelated to individual performances. They also said that the laid-off employees will be compensated.
Netflix’s revenue income has been on a decline recently. For the first time in a decade, it disclosed a sharp reduction in subscribers in the first quarter of 2022, with a net loss of 200,000 streaming clients. The business also forecasted a 2 million subscriber drop in the second quarter. On April 20, the company’s worth dropped by $54 billion as a result of this.

BREAKING: Lagos Gov bans Okada in Apapa, Ikeja, Lagos Island, 3 other LGs
Total Ban on Okada in Lagos
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has banned the operations of commercial motorcycles popularly called Okada, in six Local Governments.
The governor announced that the ban is “indefinite and total”.
The six local governments listed by the governor are Ikeja, Surulere, Eti-Osa, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, and Apapa.
The Governor gave out the directive at a meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) at the State House in Alausa.
The fresh Okada ban followed the February 2020 restriction placed on the activities of commercial motorcycles.
Sanwo-Olu said the Government took the decision in line with the State’s Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018 to immediately address the chaos and menace created by the operations of Okada in the listed areas.
He told the police to enforce the order without compromise.
He said, “After a critical review of our restriction on Okada activities in the first six Local Government Areas where we restricted them on February 1, 2020, we have seen that the menace has not abated. We are now directing a total ban on Okada activities across the highways and bridges within these six Local Government and their Local Council Development Areas, effective from June 1, 2022.
“This is a phased ban we are embarking on this period, and we expect that within the short while when this ban will be enforced, Okada riders in other places where their activities are yet to be banned can find something else to do. We have given the notice now and we expect all commercial motorcycles plying the routes in the listed councils and areas to vacate the highways before enforcement begins. The enforcement will be total.”
The ban is coming days after Okada riders killed a young man in the Lekki area of Lagos State over N100 balance.
It was learnt that the victim, who was a sound engineer, was lynched and burnt to death after a misunderstanding ensued over the N100 balance with one of the commercial motorcyclists.
