Explosion in Ondo Church, Gunmen open fire on worshippers – many feared dead
Gunmen on Sunday morning attacked St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, headquaters of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, killing many members of the congregation, during the church service, Nigeria Tribune reports.
Techscoops learnt that many corpses have been moved out of the church with many casualties lying at the Federal Medical Center, Owo, for medical attention.
According to a source obtained by Tribune, some gunmen invaded the church during service, and opened fire on the members of the church, killing no fewer than 50 people.

The source explained that the congregation were caught unaware saying the casualty might be more as some worshippers who were taken to the hospital have given up. the ghost adding that the gunmen also used some explosives within the compound of the church but said most of the people were hit with gunshots.
The evil perpetrators were said to have fled the scene immediately they carried out the killing, leaving many people dead.
According the PUNCH news today, A source said the incident caused pandemonium in the area as residents in the neighborhood of the church ran for safety.
Another source said it was some herdsmen that allegedly attacked the church and killed worshippers.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, said the command was yet to ascertain the cause the incident adding that “The Commissioner of Police is on his way to the scene to ascertain the cause of the incident. We have been hearing some many things about it but I will get back to you,” she told PUNCH.
